When I was a kid we visited my Mother's relatives in North Dakota. They raised cattle and I found this old bull skull and was dragging it around and I was allowed to keep it. It was hung over my bed for years as a child with my western style room decor. Now it hangs above my desk. I'm taking a drawing class right now and decided to to a practice charcoal sketch.
A behind the scenes look at my artistic process and how I make all these crazy things. Check out anthonychapin.com to see the final outcomes.

IFP photography Course
I met Jane and Jerilynn in a photography course at IFP in 2006. We would get together for work days in the dark room eventually our meetings eventually led to the Simply Hardware project.

The Photographs of Simply Hardware 2007
Three years ago three photographers worked to make a difference in the community. Here are some of the photographs I contributed to the effort. In an earlier post I showed the graphic design pieces created for advertising the event. The event was an art show in the windows of Knoll Hardware on Raymond Avenue in St. Paul, Minnesota. Part of the proceeds from the event went to the Ronald McDonald House.

Wood Carving
My father taught me to wood carve many years ago. I carved five faces as one solid piece out of Butternut. I also took this photo of the sculpture.

Jay's Cafe: Bugle Ad
After Simply Hardware in June of 2007 the owner of Jay's Cafe asked me to come up with a new newspaper ad for Jay's Cafe. The ad's he was using featured a little waiter dude (see lower left corner of pic). The waiter was the main focus in the ads. The intention was to move away from this figure. We decided to to use kitchen art photographs that Jay (the owner) had taken as the focus for the ads.
This is one of the first ads I created for a neighborhood newspaper called the Bugle. Jay wanted to phase out the waiter symbol so he is still in this early ad but plays a less significant role.

Graphic Design: Business Card
Lauren's business card. She specifically did not want a photograph of a trombone on her card. She appreciated the abstract, graphic suggestion of a trombone.

School Demolition #9: Colton, SD
At the time of the South Dakota trip I was still working with my Nikon film camera. I shot black and white the entire trip. I enjoy shooting in Black and White however this is one photo I wish I had a color version. The room was bathed in a greenish hue as the sunlight filtered through the leaves of the tree in the window. Perhaps I can convince Just Plain Jane to post her color version.
